L.E. PRINT Image size: 26"w x 12 3/8"h. Edition Size:690 | | Luke Buck, painter of vanishing rural America. Luke grew up in Indiana with a love for life, art, and nature that is evident in his nostalgic paintings of Americana. Traveling the back roads in search of scenic places, Buck will sometimes round a bend in the road, and the setting will find the artist. Most of Luke's art education came from training he received from his artist father, Harold Buck, whom he shared a studio with for many years. Luke studied figure drawing at John Heron Art Institute after majoring in art at Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. His advanced training came from intense study, practice, and devotion, while working full time as a professional artist since 1959. During this time Luke was involved in not only fine arts, but also in commercial art, teaching, and during his hitch in the U.S. Army as an illustrator. In 1981 he abandon the commercial art to devote his attention to fine art full time! An intense painter, Buck loses himself in the experience and prefers to work without any distractions. From the many reference photos he takes, he may select only a small section of a photo for a painting. Although Luke indulges into artistic license to create the feeling of the moment he tries to maintain the accuracy of the scene. This is a part of preserving the vanishing subject matter. | | | | .jpg) | | | | | Although Buck works with oils and acrylics, he prefers watercolors for their spontaneity and versatility. Luke is primarily a studio painter but also enjoys "plein aire" painting. (painting outside on location) "This keeps an artist alert and fresh." | | | | | His father had once advised him to paint, not to please others, but to please each artist's toughest critic; himself. "Satisfy yourself with a painting. If you're happy, others will be happy, too," Remembering those words, when Buck is content with a painting, he always adds a personal final touch to it in an inconspicuous place - his fingerprint. | | | | | Luke's talents have won him many honors and awards through the years. His work has been exhibited in major juried art shows and events including invitational's such as: | | | | | American Art in Miniature, Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, OK Art of The Animal Kingdom, Bennington Center for the Arts, Bennington, VT Florida Wildlife & Western Art Expo. Sarasota, FL Hoosier Art Salon, Indianapolis, IN Indiana Heritage Arts Exhibition, Nashville, Indiana Kentucky National Wildlife Art Exhibit, Henderson, KY Missouri Wildlife Art Festival, St. Charles, MO Nature Art Festival, Jamestown, N.Y. Naturework's Wildlife Art, Tulsa, OK Plantation Wildlife Festival, Thomasville, GA Southeastern Wildlife Expo. Charlestown, S.C. Southern Wildlife Art Festival, Decatur, AL The Disney, "Festival of The Masters", Lake Buena Vista, FL Waterfowl Art Festival, Easton, MD | | | | | In addition to these and many other showings, Luke Buck's work has been featured in numerous gallery shows throughout the USA. Being featured in many national publications Luke is also a contributing featured artist in Northlight Books, "Wildlife Painting Step By Step", and "The One Hour Watercolorist" by Patrick Seslar. His paintings have been selected for print and inclusion in programs with National Wild Turkey Federation, and The Friends of NRA . In 1997 Luke signed on with Mill Pond Press, a well respected publisher of quality reproductions. They print and distribute Luke's art through a network of galleries nationwide, and include his work through their licensing program. | | | | | | | | | | .jpg) | | | | When not at their lakefront home and studio in southern Indiana, Luke and his wife Coleen travel the blue highways and byways capturing the beauty of America with his palette. His unique talents as an artist have earned him a strong following among art enthusiast and collectors across the USA and abroad. |
