For only a short window of time, one of James Christensen’s most beloved paintings is available as a Giclée Canvas Anniversary Edition! You’ll have to place your order quickly because enrollment in The College of Magical Knowledge ends September 30, 2011.

The College of Magical Knowledge is the most recognized and adored setting in Christensen’s “land a little left of reality” and was featured in his best-selling book The Voyage of the Basset.“The inscription over the entrance reads Scientia est Potentia,” relates Christensen, “so the institution was founded on the principle that ‘Knowledge is Power’ But it is vital to realize that here, at this place, the traditional human paths to knowledge, to become political beings or financiers, are incomplete. Science itself only offers us one way of looking at our problems. One needs to add the suspension of disbelief in order to gain access to the magic found in life. You don’t learn ordinary things here.

The College of Magical Knowledge is just the opposite of the kind of institution where the Fellowes wear black and are very serious. It is a place where the professors wear as many colors as possible, plus two! I’d guess that nearly every character I’ve painted went to school here. Certainly a few haven’t, but you can see here Bird Hunters, the Fishwalker, a butterfly fisherman and the Pear Balancer. For as stately as the building may appear, the College is far bigger on the inside than out. The Fellowes have an incredible library of stuff at which we can only guess. But two of the most prized possessions are the Book of Answers and theBook of Questions. I’ve heard that most find learning how to ask the right questions will get them farther than simply having all the answers, which isn’t necessarily the path many institutions take.”

The College of Magical Knowledge will only be offered as a personal commission through September 30, 2011. It comes in two different sizes. First, a magnificent MasterWork™ canvas at 34" w x 32" h. This MasterWork Edition will not exceed 35 pieces regardless of the number of orders received. The regular Fine Art Canvas at 22"w x 24"h will have an edition size set by the number of orders we receive by the September 30 deadline.

For the first time, you will have the option of ordering your Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Canvas Edition (either size) in a gallery-wrap format, which makes it suitable for display without the need for additional framing! There is an additional charge of $30 for this service.

Most importantly, remember that your opportunity to own The College of Magical Knowledge is a time-limited proposition and the clock is already ticking. Order your edition today!

Commission Your Edition Before Time Runs Out!
Orders Must be placed by September 30, 2011

What is a Personal Commission?
The Personal Commission was created by The Greenwich Workshop, Inc. as a way for all customers who desire so to collect an artist whose fine art editions often sell out and are difficult to find. Collectors “commission” their personal copy of a given edition during a set period of time. Delivery of completed edition begins shortly after the edition size is determined by the total number of orders received during the Commission Period.

This Fine Art Anniversary Giclée Canvas edition will be limited to the number of prints ordered during the commission period which ends September 30, 2011. Confirmation of the final edition size will be announced October 5, 2011.

About James C. Christensen

Inspired by the world's myths, fables and tales of imagination, James C. Christensen wants his work to add up to more than a beautiful - if sometimes "curious" looking work of art. Having taught art professionally for over 20 years, he likes to think of the world as his classroom. His hope is that through whatever he creates-be it a porcelain, fine art print or book-he can convey a message, inspiration or a simple laugh. He believes that teaching people to use their imagination helps us find solutions to sooth the stresses of everyday life-or get a little lift to help us keep going. In short: all things are possible when you share Christensen's philosophy that "Believing is Seeing."

Christensen was born in 1942 and raised in Culver City, California. He studied painting at Brigham Young University and, for a while, the University of California at Los Angeles before finishing his formal education at BYU. Since then, he has had one-man shows in the West and the Northeast and his work is prized in collections throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Christensen has also won all the professional art honors the World Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention can bestow, as well as multiple Chesley Awards from the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists. Christensen has been designated as a “Utah Art Treasure,” one of Utah’s Top 100 Artists by the Springville Museum of Art and received the Governor’s Award for Art awarded by the Utah Arts Council recognizing the significance of Christensen’s artwork to Utah’s cultural communities. He was inducted into the U.S. Art magazine’s Hall of Fame and is an Honored Alumnus at Brigham Young University for his contributions to fine art and education. James and his wife Carole, co-chair the Mormon Arts Foundation. He is a frequent guest lecturer at Brigham Young University, and has also given workshops to large companies and organizations on the subject of creative thinking, including the California Art Educator’s Association, Hallmark and Intermountain Health Care.

In addition to his fine art limited editions on paper and canvas, Christensen’s work can be found in five acclaimed books and a series of interactive journals and in three dimensions in porcelain and hand-crafted limited-edition bronze sculptures.
